Vacationing

Hey,
Vacation was great! We went to Kentucky, where I lived for the first 6 months of my life. My parents wanted to go back to see their old friends. I was expecting a lot of old people pinching my cheek and telling me how much I’d grown. There was a little of that, but mostly the people were pretty cool, and not too old. We left at 5 AM on both 9 hour drives. That’s rough for our driver, but it really seems to speed things up for the passengers. We stayed with some old friends of my parents, the Parkers. That was pretty much like staying at a resort. They waited on us hand and foot. They had a huge TV. They had an awesome pond. It was a really thing. I slept in a closet, which definitely beats sharing with Luke as I do at home. I would sleep in till about 9 every morning, at which time Luke and maybe the Parker’s grandkids would come bouncing in to wake me up. There may be something to the whole karma thing, you know, “what goes around comes around…” Because I used to LOVE to wake up people who slept in. One of my favorite childhood activities. Now it’s coming back to haunt me. In a big way. We went to Cincinnati for one night to see the new creation museum by Answers in Genesis. It’s top notch. We also went to the Newport Aquarium. Very cool. I saw a very cool movie on their ginormous TV, Equilibrium. It’s R, but doesn’t deserve it. I recommend it. One of the hardest things about the trip was I didn’t get to play guitar for 6 days. That kills.
We also went to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. That was really cool. I got to see how they make a bat, and I got to touch all of the bats the Cards used in last year’s World Series. Including Albert Pujol’s bat.
The last day, Olivia was riding a horse for the first time. Which was very exciting to her. And not to me. So… the guy’s like, “If you’re bored, you can ride around on the 4 wheeler.” I did. For a long time. Until I flipped it. In a briar patch. I’m a little scraped up on my arms, and I have some scrapes thru my jeans, and I think I bruised a rib. Thank God I was wearing a helmet, and was thrown clear. I was going about … way too fast, and the ground sloped weird, and the stringy vine-like briars grabbed the wheel and flipped it over and me off. Pretty crazy. Surprisingly, my mom didn’t lecture me at all! I was amazed. Thank God for moms like mine.
It was a good time: being lazy, swimming, tanning, watching TV, dragging through museums, flipping 4 wheelers, retrieving a lawn chair that I accidentally let sink to the bottom of the pond, sleeping. Very good.
Not exactly my randomest post. Pretty routine. I disappoint myself. Oh well, better luck next time.

Hey... you've joined the "I Flipped Large Machines" club...

I think a riding lawn mower beats a four wheeler. But I got really close to flipping the Tate's huge ATV... that thing really can go pretty fast.

My Definition of "Nerd"
mmmm. If that's Liz's comment, just because you didn't sit with us doesn't mean you're a nerd. I'll work on the definition.

so...did you throw the lawn chair in to the pond?.....

You're back already? lol Glad that you had a fun time.
Yeah I used to like waking up those that slept in too. Except now I'm the one who gets the wake up call with people jumping all over the bed ;)

I don't know who's comment it was, but sounds like world view was just a big popularity contest for you-too bad.

Zach, great guess on the 'nerd' question. Ya, it was me, Liz. Glad you don't think I'm a nerd, though I'v never been really worried about that(made in God's image and He loves me) But I would love to know your definition of nerd, 'cause I missed the "darn lot of them" at Worldview.

P.S. I won't be able to check this for at least a week because I'm leaving for Camp David tomarrow.

I never sleept in past 9 before.
vacationing made you soft, buddy.

ps: I really like the phrase, "It was a really thing."

post on the campout!

So yah, I was wondering what you ment by "nerd" too. Is a nerd someone who is not (or just refuses to be) part of the "in" group? 'Cause sometimes it takes a lot more strength and maturity to stand against the current than to flow with it, and that is deffinately not "nerdish". Looking forward to your definition!

No, WV wasn't just a popularity contest for me. That did come up, but it was a lot more than that. And I really dislike critical anonymous comments. If you're gonna critique me, leave me your name so we can talk about it.
And to the last anonymous comment, I've never been very good at going against the cool crowd. Definitely something I'm working on. As for my defininition.... I might need to think on that more...
Let's try.
Nerd: A person who has nil social skills, makes you feel awkard, acts ... different, and least important, dresses like it's 1990.
I have a very bad habit of judging people solely on appearance or first impression, and going only by that, and not bothering to dig past the often-nerdy surface. No more anonymous comments! If you want to talk, let's talk for real.

As for the lawn chair, I was wanting to make a floating chair by putting noodles throught the chair. They came out. The chair sank. I spent the next 15 minutes diving for it.

And who the heck is Rodrigo? That's weird

Yo Zach
I undertstand sleeping totally, I love to do it after staying up til all hours, which is very often for me. Umm...there was something I was going to say...oh boy, I fell stupid now...just a sec...oh yeah. I didn't know Equilibrium was R. Wow, my parents would'n't have let me watch it if they'd known! Yeah though, it wasn't much above PG-13 IF that except for the weird factor, but all in all I actually liked it. Wouldn't want to see it on bigscreen though, that would scare me!

Hi it's one of the anonymous crowd here-sorry but for now it will be that way-after all they give you the option below and i want to use it! Blogging is great-not identity needed!
I find it interesting that you often own up to errors in character-bad habit of judging by appearances, hard time goin against what you consider the "cool" crowd, etc... i guess my question is, what are you doing to change that, or is it easier to just admit it on a blog and and go on as before. You complain about the anonymous comments but i wonder if you are for real yourself. To be honest i am probably one of those that you would write off as a nerd and so if i did talk to you face to face or name to name i doubt you would listen or give any credit to what I had to say-just wondered if writing all this on a blog makes any difference in your life or if it is easy to confess but just go on-no judgement intended, just curoisity as to what difference a blog makes in life.

Alright... just to clear stuff up (and I feel sorry for penguin cause of all the 'nerd' comments), I was at WVA and it was find friends or die. seriously. if you didn't hang out with anyone, you were really lonely. So, friends kind of got emphasized. A lot.

sorry i didn't see that you hated anonymous comments. it's a lot easier and faster to put "anonymous" than to sign in. the last comment was, of course, me.
